NHRA returns to Arizona
Firebird Motorsports Park has been revitalized and rebranded, just in time for the 39th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals from April 5-7. Originally opened in 1983 and nearly closed for an I-10 overpass project, the track's survival has reignited excitement among fans and racers, including NHRA legend John Force and his daughter Brittany. The return to its original name honors the facility’s rich history as a premier motorsports destination in Phoenix. With Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and more, the event celebrates tradition and a renewed future for drag racing in the Valley.

Augusta National Women's Amateur
Ashley Menne, a senior golfer at Arizona State, is set to make her third appearance in the Augusta National Women's Amateur from April 3-6. A three-time All-American, Menne has built a historic collegiate career, winning the Arizona Women’s Amateur three times and representing the U.S. in the Arnold Palmer Cup. Reflecting on her growth over four years at ASU, she views this tournament as a final opportunity to showcase her skills, aiming to make the cut and finish in the top 10. Supported by her coach Missy Farr-Kaye and Arizona’s rich golf legacy, Menne is determined to end her college career on a high note.

Arizona Rattlers fall to Vegas
The Arizona Rattlers dropped their home opener at Desert Diamond Arena in a tight 45-43 loss to the Vegas Knight Hawks. Defensive struggles plagued the Rattlers, who had no answer for Knight Hawks quarterback Ja’Rome Johnson, as he tallied five total touchdowns and over 300 combined yards. Despite holding a halftime lead and late-game heroics from quarterback Lorenzo Brown Jr., Vegas secured the win with a 32-yard game-winning field goal by Kevin Macias in the final seconds. The Rattlers will aim to rebound next week against the defending IFL champion Bay Area Panthers in San Jose.

Chasing opportunity: For Arizona high school athletes
The trend of high school athlete transfers in Arizona, especially in football, is reshaping team dynamics as players seek better opportunities or face personal challenges. Open enrollment and emerging NIL deals add to the complexity, raising questions about balancing individual ambitions with community loyalty. This ongoing shift continues to spark debates on fairness and cohesion in school sports.
